2025年10月にコートヤードHIROOでYUUKI＋Pamela Sustaita2人展「日陰で咲くFLOWER-floreciendo en la oscuridad-」を開催いたしました。日本在住のYUUKIさんとメキシコ在住のPamelaさんがコートヤードHIROOでの展示に至った経緯や今後の展望についてインタビューを行いました。
In October 2025, we held the two-person exhibition “FLOWER Blooming in the Shade – floreciendo en la oscuridad -” by YUUKI + Pamela Sustaita at Courtyard HIROO. We interviewed YUUKI, based in Japan, and Pamela, based in Mexico, about how they came to exhibit at Courtyard HIROO and their future prospects.

Q： 今回の素晴らしい二人展、地球の反対側にいるお二人での開催ということで、まずはお二人の出会いについて教えていただけますか？
This wonderful joint exhibition is being held by two artists from opposite sides of the world. First, could you tell us about how you met?
Pamela：私たちはNYLON JAPANのオフィシャルブロガーとして活動していて、YUUKIがCHAIのツアーでメキシコに来ていた時に、私たちは夕食を共にしました 。すぐに意気投合して仲良くなり 、いつか一緒に展示をしようと約束をしました 。
We are active as official bloggers for NYLON JAPAN, and when YUUKI came to Mexico for CHAI’s tour, we had dinner together.We became really good friends right away and made the promise of having an exhibition together.
YUUKI：そうですね。メキシコで会って、英語は片言だったんですけど、二人で意気投合したのが始まりです 。リアルで会ったのは、メキシコでの1日と今回を合わせてトータル7日間くらい！
Yes, we met in Mexico. We only spoke broken English, but we clicked when we met up that night. In total, we have only met in person for about seven days !
Q： それだけで開催に至ったのはすごいですね。作品の相性はどのように見極められたのですか？
It’s amazing that you decided on an exhibition after such a short time. How did you determine the compatibility of your work?
Pamela：YUUKIはシンプルなものの中に美しさを見出す視点が、私と非常に似ています 。ただ、私たち二人の世界観は似ているけれども、同時に異なってもいます 。この展示は、私たち二人の異なるビジョンを混ぜ合わせることに意味があると考えました 。
Her way of seeing the world, like finding beauty in simple things, is very similar to mine. However, even when our visions of the world are similar, they are also different. We decided to create this exhibition to mix both worlds and both visions.
YUUKI：モチーフとして女の子がいたり、「暗い中にある光」「ダークサイドと光」といった、相反するけれども似たようなテーマを扱っている点が共通していました 。描き方や画風は違いますが、そこが面白いと感じたんです 。
We shared common themes, such as motifs of girls, and looking at similar concepts like “light within darkness” or the contrast between the “dark side” and “light”. Although the painting styles are different, we found that common ground very interesting.
Q：それでは、お二人の作品にそれぞれ込められた核となるメッセージを教えてください。
Please share the core message embedded in your respective bodies of work.
YUUKI：私は全体的にポジティブなマインドを表したいと思っています 。ただ、悲しみや怒りといったネガティブな感情を無視するのではなく、そういうものがある中に、「大丈夫だよ」という小さなポジティブや、「自分は一人じゃない」という感覚を忘れないでいたい、というメッセージを込めています 。常に明るくいる必要はなく、ハッと「気づく」ことが大事。そのためのお守りのような作品になれば嬉しいです 。また、「生きている自分の細胞を喜ばせる」、つまり自分のために行動することの大切さを作品を通して伝えています。
Overall, I want to express a positive mindset. However, instead of ignoring negative emotions like sorrow and anger, I embed the message that you shouldn’t forget a small, internal positive feeling, like saying “it’s okay,” or the feeling that “you are not alone”. It’s not necessary to be cheerful all the time; the sudden “moment of realization” is what’s important. I hope the works can be like an amulet for that. I also convey the importance of “acting for oneself”—like making “one’s own living cells happy”.
Q：ありがとうございます。Pamelaさんの作品は、特に大きなドローイングが印象的ですが、テーマは何でしょうか？
Thank you. Pamela san, your large drawing is particularly striking. What is its theme?
Pamela：この作品のタイトルは「introspection of the oneiric（夢の世界の内省）」です 。約1年間かけて、スケッチをせずに、心に浮かんだものを描きました 。私のアイデアは、内側の世界を物語的なイメージで表現することです。内にある美しいものだけでなく、痛み、悪夢、そして希望や夢といったすべてを含んでいます 。登場する少女たちはすべて私の「分身」です 。
The title of this work is “introspection of the oneiric,” which means an exploration of my dream world. I created this piece for almost one year, drawing all day whatever came to my mind, never using sketches. My idea was to create a narrative image of my inner world, including both the beautiful and the ugly things inside, like pain, nightmares, and also my hopes and dreams. All the characters in the piece are my alter egos.
Q：最後に、今後のアーティストとしての活動目標や展望をお聞かせください。
Finally, what are your goals or plans for your future artistic careers?
YUUKI： 私は絵を描くこと自体が楽しいので、描き続けていきたいです。最終的には、3.5メートルくらいの大きな壁や円柱のような、身体全体を使って描ける大作に挑戦したいという夢があります 。
I simply enjoy painting, so I want to continue. My ultimate dream is to create large-scale artworks, such as murals or a large cylindrical painting about 3.5 meters, where I can paint using my whole body.
Pamela：私は自分の全人生をアートに捧げるつもりです 。また、私は詩も書いていて、詩集を出版したいと思っています 。詩と絵画を融合させることを続けていきたいです 。
My plan is to keep dedicating my entire existence to art. I also write poetry and want to publish more books. I want to continue the connection between poetry and art.
