In Freyja no Heya we’ve been gearing up for summer and making a lot of light, colourful playful things and toys. Kites, uchiwa, masks all represent the free and playful feeling of summer to me.

Over the next three months I particularly want to emphasise the other-worldly magic of Shakespeare’s play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in my classes. We’ll be putting up my shadow puppet theatre and in our summer workshops making puppets based on the characters in the play. The children will enact this play and their own stories on our deck in the Courtyard. Coming from England, the tradition of watching this play outside on a warm, midsummer evening brings back wonderful memories and I want to help make these memories with the children who join my classes and workshops this season.
